Best Time to Visit Penghu: Seasons, Weather, Water Season and Events
When is the best time to visit Penghu? A local travel agency explains the weather in each season, the peak water season, and when the fireworks and music festivals happen, so you can pick the right month.
"When is the best time to visit Penghu?" is the question we're asked most. The answer depends on what you want to do — water activities, avoiding crowds, or catching events. As a local Penghu travel agency, here's a clear look at the four seasons.
Best season: April to September
Overall, April to September is Penghu's best travel season: stable weather and warm water, ideal for snorkeling, SUP and island-hopping. June to August is the peak water season, with comfortable water temperatures and high visibility.
Season by season
Spring (March–May)
Temperatures rise and crowds are relatively light, and from April to June you may catch the Penghu International Ocean Fireworks Festival. A great choice for good weather without the summer-holiday crowds.
Summer (June–August)
The busiest water season with the fullest range of activities — but also when flights, ferries and accommodation are most sought-after and most expensive. Book 1–2 months ahead.
Autumn (September–October)
Days are still warm, crowds thin out, and you can catch the 2026 Penghu Wind Chasing Music & Light Festival (9/12–10/11). Excellent value.
Winter (November–February)
The northeast monsoon brings strong, cold winds; it's not suitable for water activities and some shops and sailings close. Good for travellers who want to avoid crowds and experience local life and food.
