Set off after lunch, walk the beach first, and let the day's wind and waves and your companions decide how long to stay; then continue to the 30 Highland for a coastal viewpoint, or link the route toward Shili, Fenggui and Sheshan. If you want to keep it simple, there's no need to cram in every stop — keeping one uninterrupted stretch of sea-watching feels more like Penghu than ticking off more spots.

Around dusk is a lovely time at Shanshui, but it depends on the season, cloud cover and wind. During typhoon peripheral circulation, strong wind, slippery post-rain ground or poor night visibility, it's not advisable to approach the surf zone or take risky photos. There's no need to prove you came with a single photo — getting back to town safely for dinner is the most complete itinerary.

Shanshui Beach suits travellers who want to unwind by the sea, shoot natural light, arrange a short family stop, or string southern Penghu into a half-day.
